The Deveron Singers

About Us

The Deveron Singers are a community choir who meet in Macduff Arts Centre on Duff Street in Macduff. After our summer break we will be meeting on a Monday starting on the 5th August from 7pm until 9pm. Anyone who is interested in taking part in the choir is welcome to come and try it to see if you like it or not. We are a small group who love to sing together and would welcome anyone else who would like to give it a go!

What Is A Community Choir?

It's a group of people who get together to sing for the enjoyment of singing in a group - there are no voice tests and the songs we sing are varied and mostly 'a cappella' or unaccompanied.

So, if you like singing and would like to be part of a group who do too, then we might just be what you are looking for!

We are joining our sister choir The Mearns Singers on Friday 21st June in Stonehaven at the launch of their CD that we sang on too! If you can join us you'd be more than welcome if you don't do eventbrite their will be tickets available on the door - poster below

Or you can come and hear us on Saturday 22nd June at the Glenglassaugh Scottish Traditional Boat Festival in Portsoy where we will be singing on the Back Green Stage from 10.45am to 11.45am. We will be singing a mixture of sea/ boat themed songs - you will need a ticket for the Boat festival and these can be found at

Musical Director

Dr Irene Watt
Irene is a dynamic singing workshop leader. Her enthusiasm is infectious and at the heart of her workshops is her passion for the 'joy of singing'. She believes that everyone can sing and her coaching methods helps the most timid to 'find their voice'. She arranges music to suit the voices she works with and encourages individuals to explore different voice parts and move around the group or choir.

Irene is currently Music Director for The Deveron Singers, The Mearns Singers (Stonehaven) and also Banchory Singers. She has a PhD in Ethnomusicology. She is much in demand as a harp tutor as well as singing and regularly teaches at The Edinburgh International Harp Festival. She is the Convenor of The North East Branch of The Clarsach Society.

Irene has added another skill set, that of Musical Director of the virtual online joint choir of The Deveron Singers and the Mearns Singers.
