The Deveron Singers

About Us

The Deveron Singers are a community choir who normally meet in Macduff Arts Centre on Duff Street in Macduff on a Wednesday night at 7.30pm for two hours. Due to Covid 19 - we have been unable to meet physically but we have joined forces with The Mearns Singers and meet virtually twice a week. Currently on a Wednesday evening at 7pm for an hour and a Sunday evening also at 7pm for an hour. Our online choir is called 'A' the Airts community choir and your can find us here https://www.facebook.com/AtheAirtsCommunityChoir

What Is A Community Choir?

It's a group of people who get together to sing for the enjoyment of singing in a group - there are no voice tests and the songs we sing are varied and mostly 'a cappella' or unaccompanied.

So, if you like singing and would like to be part of a group who do too, then we might just be what you are looking for!

Concert

Our aim is to put on two concerts a year. One at the end of the Winter term and one at the end of the Spring term. But these are not the reason for us meeting, but rather a way of sharing the songs we have learnt and that we hope you will enjoy too.

Due to Covid 19 no concerts are planned at the moment - we hope this changes eventually - in the meantime stay safe and well.

Dr Irene Watt
Irene is a dynamic singing workshop leader. Her enthusiasm is infectious and at the heart of her workshops is her passion for the 'joy of singing'. She believes that everyone can sing and her coaching methods helps the most timid to 'find their voice'. She arranges music to suit the voices she works with and encourages individuals to explore different voice parts and move around the group or choir.

Irene is currently Music Director for The Deveron Singers, The Mearns Singers (Stonehaven) and The Kingswells Singers. She has a PhD in Ethnomusicology and currently lectures for both the Music Department and The Elphinstone Institute at The University of Aberdeen. She is much in demand as a harp tutor as well as singing and regularly teaches at The Edinburgh International Harp Festival. She is the Convenor of The North East Branch of The Clarsach Society.

Irene has added another skill set, that of Musical Director of https://www.facebook.com/AtheAirtsCommunityChoir the virtual online joint choir of The Deveron Singers and the Mearns Singers.
